Standard Nut Trees
Standard nut trees refer to the varieties with a well-documented history and those recommended for high-quality nut production. These are also the most popular and widely used nut trees.
--//--
In this selection of nut trees, there are still notable differences among them. These include factors such as location requirements, growth vigor, tree and nut shape, and the need for a suitable cross-pollinator to ensure better and higher nut production. Each variety has its own specific description, making it easier for you to determine whether it meets your needs. All our trees are cultivated with great care and attention. We also handle transportation and delivery with the utmost precision.
As mentioned earlier, our standard nut trees differ from one another. One key difference is height; the smallest variety in our selection can reach a height of 8 to 10 meters after 12 years, depending on its location. This makes it an excellent choice for gardens. The largest variety can grow to over 18 meters after 20 years, also depending on its environment. This impressive tree is ideal for parks or large backyards. Regardless of the tree’s final size, it offers more than just nuts and cooling shade. Think of all the wildlife it will attract—you'll bring nature closer to home. Who wouldn’t want that?
Within the entire selection of standard nut trees, the blooming period varies from early to mid and late spring. Some varieties are apomictic, meaning they can produce nuts without pollination. This ensures a reliable annual harvest. The harvest period generally falls in the second half of September through early October. The nuts are ready to eat immediately but can also be stored for long periods.
All standard nut trees grow best in soil with a pH value between 5.9 and 7.0. Some varieties are highly winter-hardy, making them more resilient. A few trees are also used for timber production.
Our Selection
Our selection is extensive, and each tree is unique. We understand that everyone has different preferences, and we are happy to assist you in making the right choice. Below is a small selection of our nut trees.
- The Broadview Walnut Tree - The 'Broadview' is a true favorite among walnut enthusiasts. This more compact version of the traditional walnut tree is perfect for smaller gardens or for gardeners who don’t want to wait for a large tree to bear fruit. One of the great advantages of 'Broadview' is its early ripening; this tree often starts producing nuts within 4–7 years after planting. The nuts are large, with a rich, flavorful kernel that is easy to crack. 'Broadview' is also known for its robust nature, with strong resistance to diseases and cold weather, making it an excellent choice for the Dutch climate.
- The Buccaneer Walnut Tree - The 'Buccaneer' is a standout in our selection, known for its abundant production of high-quality nuts. This variety, developed in the Netherlands, is particularly well adapted to our climate. It is a fast-growing tree that provides a generous harvest, making it highly popular among both commercial growers and hobby gardeners. The nuts of the 'Buccaneer' are attractive, with a smooth shell and a sweet, full flavor. This tree is also less susceptible to late frost, which is a significant advantage in our sometimes unpredictable weather.
- The Juglans regia Coenen Walnut Tree - The 'Juglans regia Coenen' is a stunning example of the traditional walnut tree, but with some unique characteristics. This tree produces exceptionally large nuts of high quality, making it highly sought after by gourmet enthusiasts. Its nuts are not only delicious but also easy to crack, adding to their popularity. The 'Coenen' grows vigorously and has an impressive, broad crown, making it a beautiful addition to any garden. This variety is hardy and well-suited to different climate conditions, making it a reliable choice for Dutch gardens.
