The Broadview
Walnut tree Juglans regia Broadview is a selection found in British Columbia (Canada 1930) on the Broadview farm. Suitable for general use. Planted for decades in the Netherlands as a standard variety. Has green leaves and a yellow autumn colour. Broadvieuw flowers mid-season, is a self-pollinator and asexual reproduction also occurs. For a walnut, a smaller-sized tree (8 to 10 metres after 12 years). By planting the Broadview walnut tree, you get a healthy and smaller-growing tree that will do well in most locations. A fun fact is that Juglans regia ‘Broadview’ has the property of repelling mosquitoes.
The Franquette
The Franquette walnut tree is a selection from the Sait-Marcellin area (France). It is an old production variety widely used in France. The tree sprouts late but is a strong grower, with an upright growing crown. The tree is suitable for both private individuals with larger gardens and professional use. It is also a good pollinator for better production nuts of the Juglans r. Broadview. Beautiful combination of 2 healthy varieties.
Quality note
The Broadview produces nice good nuts, ripen from the 2nd half of September and are suitable for fresh consumption as well as storage. The Franquette produces nice nuts with good flavour at a young age. The nut itself is medium to large with a hard, rough, and wrinkled shell.
