How do I plant my tree?

Step 1:

Make a planting hole twice the size of the tree's root ball/pot.

Step 2:

Break up the walls of the dug hole with the shovel.

Step 3:

Add a planting hole improver if required.

Step 4:

Plant the tree as high as it was in the container.

Step 5:

Make a raised border around the tree with soil for easy watering.

Step 6:

Place two tree stakes a 30cm from the tree and attach them to the stakes with natural binding material.

Step 7:

Clear a 1-metre diameter tree bed of plantings and keep it that way for the first few years.

Step 8:

During the dry period, water densely, on average 10 litres once a week. If in doubt, always contact us.

A planting leaflet is included with every delivery.

Advice:

The average walnut tree does not like a wet location, so make sure you plant it at a slightly higher spot in your garden so that the tree does not end up in a puddle of water during the winter.

About the species

Nootsaeck recommends a combined planting of these three varieties so that better pollination takes place for a guaranteed harvest. The hazelnut combination Tonda di giffoni, Halle'Sche Riessen and Lang Tidlig Zeller produce beautifully flavoured hazelnuts. Moreover, hazelnuts are very healthy and contribute to keeping the heart and blood vessels healthy and are packed with folic acid. Due to our special method of propagation on the colurna rootstock, the hazelnut trees do not suffer from annoying and harmful formation of wild growth fromout of the ground. As a result, the hazelnut tree can really be grown as a tree form. These hazelnut trees are resistant to low temperatures and can be planted in gardens, parks and food forests.

 

Corylus Halle'sche Riessen

Corylus Halle'sche Riessen is a widely planted production variety with flavourful hazelnuts. This variety combines well with Corylus Tonda di Giffoni and also produces beautiful yellow catkins in winter.

 

Corylus Tonda di Giffoni

The Corylus Tonda di Giffoni produces large flavourful nuts that can be used for consumption and processing. Hazelnut tree Tonda di Giffoni has strong growth with a dense crown and grows in columnar form. Moreover, it does well in all kinds of climates. What also makes it special are its heart-shaped leaves. 

 

Corylus a. Lang Tidlig Zeller

The fertility of Lang Tidlig Zeller is good, it produces fairly large, elongated and flavourful hazelnuts.
